RDX Lumina is one of the most significant and genuinely unique health infrastructure projects to be delivered in Australia in recent years. A $154 million development located within one of Queensland’s largest health and education precincts on the Gold Coast, RDX is not a hospital, and it is not a conventional research facility — it is something new entirely: a purpose-built life sciences, research, and clinical innovation hub designed to operate at the intersection of medicine, technology, and education.
Developed by Northwest Healthcare Properties Australia and delivered by Tier 1 contractor Icon, the project demanded a scaffolding partner capable of working to the highest standards in a health precinct environment. Cogent was appointed by Icon to supply the full scaffolding package for the project — covering access, perimeter, and support systems across the full height and footprint of the building.
Working on a health precinct site carries expectations that go beyond a standard commercial build. The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct is an active, operational health campus with hospitals, clinical facilities, and sensitive research environments in close proximity. Scaffold design, sequencing, and site management all need to account for that context — minimising disruption, maintaining strict site standards, and ensuring the construction footprint is managed with care throughout the programme.
RDX Lumina will be a lasting contribution to Queensland’s health and innovation landscape. When complete, it will attract world-class researchers, clinicians, and health technology companies to the Gold Coast and generate outcomes that benefit patients across Australia and beyond. Cogent is proud to have played a part in building it.
