LOCATION: Butterfield Street, Herston Queensland
TYPE OF PROJECT: Government, Hospital
YEAR(S): 2009 – 2010
CLIENT: Hutchinson Builders
This project involved the refurbishment and demolition of the Health and Sciences Building at RBH, a facility which was spread over 11 floors of the complex. Such a comprehensive reconfiguration of the structure meant that over 80 per cent of the existing facades would have to be levelled and replaced, a huge operation.
Cogent Scaffolding and Hutchinson Builders worked in tandem to devise a cost-effective plan for a scaffolding skeleton which would safely support the demolition and re-build through each phase of the process. For the comfort and safety of hospital staff, patients and patrons, the Cogent team were also able to fit a special containment unit to control any excess dust created in the demolition process.
As the scaffolding needed to be in place before any other work could progress, this was a job that required co-operation across many trades – no problem for an outfit as professional and well-respected in the construction industry as Cogent Scaffolding.
